Echo Chamber - 164
This week’s @EchoChamberFP has four films, asking very different questions. A Shudder horror looking for revenge, a Netflix drama dealing with grief, a documentary asking "Why" and a comedy drama looking for self.
Written and directed by Simon Barrett 'Seance' is the new Shudder original. Camille Meadows (Suki Waterhouse) is the new girl at the prestigious Edelvine Academy for Girls. Soon after her arrival, six girls, Alice (Inanna Sarkis), Bethany (Madisen Beaty), Lenora (Jade Michael), Yvonne (Stephanie Sy), Rosalind (Djouliet Amara) & Helina (Ella-Rae Smith) invite her to join them in a late-night ritual, calling forth the spirit of a dead former student who reportedly haunts their halls. But before morning, one of the girls is dead, leaving the others wondering what they may have awakened.
'The Starling' is directed by Theodore Melfi and written by Matt Harris. A married couple suffers a hardship, leading Jack (Chris O'Dowd) to head off to deal with his grief while Lilly (Melissa McCarthy) remains in the "real" world, dealing with her own guilt. As if Lilly's troubles weren't bad enough, a starling that has nested in her backyard begins to harass and attack her and she becomes comically obsessed with killing it. Lilly eventually finds guidance from Larry (Kevin Kline), a quirky psychologist-turned-veterinarian with a troubled past of his own. The two form a unique and unlikely friendship as they each help the other to explore, acknowledge and confront their problems.
To mark 75 years to the day of the International Military Tribunal sentencing at Nuremberg, David Nicholas Wilkinson brings his documentary ‘Getting Away With Murder(s)’ to the big screen!
Trent O’Donnell directs and co-wrote with Jake Johnson 'Ride The Eagle'. Leif (Jake Johnson) inherits a picturesque log cabin when his estranged mother Honey (Susan Sarandon) dies. But there is a condition; he must first complete her elaborate to-do list. With the help of his ex (D’Arcy Carden), local eccentric (J.K. Simmons), and Nora, his faithful canine companion, Leif embarks on a hilarious journey of self-discovery.
