'Beneath The Banyan Tree' is written & directed by Nani Li Yang @naniliyang The story is about a traditional Chinese family thrust into the fast lane of Hollywood. After her son is jailed, Mrs. Woo (Ah Leh Chang Gua #guiyalei), a mother with high expectations, struggles to protect her family's remaining reputation by parenting her independent daughter, Ai-Jia Woo (Kathy Wu @kathywuhoo), whom she must seek shelter with in the U.S. with her son's two unmanageable adolescents in tow.

Nani Li Yang
Nani Li Yang is an engineer turned award-winning writer-director based in Los Angeles, born in China. She earned an MFA from New York Film Academy. Nani made a short documentary, "Backpackers in Dali" (2014, China). She wrote and directed her first narrative short, "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (2015), and directed 2nd short, "The Most Beautiful Woman" (2017). From 2016 to 2018, She wrote her first feature screenplay for her favorite Taiwanese actress Gua Ah-Lei. The honesty of the screenplay of "Beneath the Banyan Tree" attracted the acclaimed actress on board to play the leading role. The film has won "Visionary" awards at CINEQUST "Audience Awards" at Dances with Films. Currently, Nani is a member of Film Fatales, as well as Dances With Films 2022 program team.

Kathy Wu
Kathy Wu is a trilingual Chinese American actress, writer and showhost based in Los Angeles. She made her acting debut in the Hong Kong movie “Triple Tap”. Netflix’s action thriller “Lady Bloodfight” was Kathy’s introduction to Hollywood’s center stage. She was shortlisted for “Best Supporting Actress” in the 39th Hong Kong Film Awards in the award-winning movie “I’m Livin It”. As a first generation immigrant herself, Kathy was able to bring truth to her lead part in the feature film “Beneath the Banyan Tree”.
