AND, in 'Part THREE', of this week's @EchoChamberFP we get answers we didn't even know we needed! Buffalo 8 & Stage 3 Productions have helped bring to light the true origins of some of America's favourite, most beloved dishes!!! Then we are joined by a straight legend in the cookery game, and the man who has led the charge for truth!

'James Hemings: Ghost in America’s Kitchen' is directed by Anthony Werhun, and written by Ashbell McElveen. If you've ever eaten macaroni and cheese, French fries, or ice cream, you've enjoyed the contributions of James Hemings. Ghost in America’s Kitchen explores the incredibly life story, achievements, and erasure of America’s culinary founding father. Even lesser known is the fact that he was also the brother-in-law and slave to Thomas Jefferson. Ashbell McElveen (“Weekend Today”), a modern culinary giant, has dedicated his life to creating fine food and uncovering one of the greatest American stories that has not been told. The story of James Hemings, and Chef Ashbell's inspired quest to tell it, will captivate foodies, intrigue historians, and give every American a greater appreciation for the French fries on their plate.

Chef Ashbell McElveen

Chef Ashbell McElveen

At age 19, Chef Ashbell went to France for a year of academic study. Hungry for hands-on experience in the kitchens of Paris, he stayed an extra year working in restaurants, learning French regional cookery. After completing his undergraduate study in the U.S.A., Chef Ashbell returned to France. He attended La Sorbonne during the academic year and spent summers working in restaurants including Haynes, Paris’ famous soul food restaurant. In the 1990’s, Chef Ashbell became a regular on WNBC’s Weekend Today Show, where he cooked the foods of New York City’s melting pot. McElveen was a local champion of ethnic cuisine by a population that had been previously ignored by mainstream network television. In 2003 Chef Ashbell became the only American chef invited to open a cafe in a British Royal Park. Later that year Chef Ashbell opened Ashbell’s restaurant in Notting Hill, which received four stars from the Sunday Times of London.
