We're now into 'Part TWO' of this week's @EchoChamberFP so buckle up!

A LOT of rom-coms skip over the real issues of a relationship, NOT today's film though, which is very refreshing! We then get to talk about this, and other creative insights with the dynamic duo behind this new indie feature!

'The End of Sex' is directed by Sean Garrity, and written by Jonas Chernick. After sending their kids (Emily Watt & Maya Misaljevic) away to a week-long sleepaway camp for the first time, Emma (Emily Hampshire) and Josh (Jonas Chernick), feeling the pressures of parenting, realize they have the house to themselves which can only mean one thing - a perfect opportunity to have as much sex as they want. There is only one problem: they are shocked to discover their love making has become stagnant. Freaked out that this could be a sign of their relationship in decline, Emma and Josh desperately embark on a series of adventures that will push their marriage to the brink in the hopes of reinvigorating their sex life.

The End of Sex is the 9th feature film from award-winning Canadian filmmaker, Sean Garrity.

The press has referred to Sean’s work as “possessing a dark, twisted beauty” (Janet Smith, Georgia Strait) and has compared his work to that of David Cronenberg (Globe and Mail), Atom Egoyan (MacLean’s) and even Luis Buñuel (San Jose MetroActive).

His first feature film, INerTia, was awarded “Best First Feature” at the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival, and netted him “Best Director” at the 2001 FilmCan Festival. The Globe & Mail named him one of three “Canadian Filmmakers to Watch” in 2002 and Northern Life announced “Sean Garrity is the new wave of Canadian cinema.”

Sean’s fourth feature My Awkward Sexual Adventure – premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was selected as one of the TIFF Top Ten, it won the Public Choice Award at the 2012 Calgary International Film Festival, and the Audience Award at the 2012 Whistler Film Festival, as well as being selected at festivals from Taiwan and Mar Del Plata to Santa Barbara and New York. It dominated the 2013 Canadian Comedy Award nominations, getting a nod in almost every category, and netting Best Feature Direction award. It is being distributed in 24 counties, translated into 15 different languages, and there are official remakes in India, Lithuania, and the Ukraine. In 2013, it premiered in the top ten on American VOD.

His fifth feature, Blood Pressure, one of only a handful of Canadian films selected for the prestigious Busan International Film Festival, where it was singled out as one of Screen International’s 10 Hot Films, was also nominated for the coveted Borsos Award at the 2012 Whistler Film Festival, and was an official selection at Beijing, Torino, Sao Paulo and Shanghai.

It was tremendously well-reviewed, and stayed in theatres in Canada for over four months, playing in 23 cities.

His sixth feature, After The Ball, starred Chris Noth, Portia Doubleday, Marc André Grondin and Lauren Holly, was produced by the venerable Don Carmody and remained the #1 Canadian film at the box office for three consecutive weeks.

He directed Joey King and Kevin Pollak in Borealis (2016) which won awards at numerous film festivals, including Best Actress (Vancouver) and best Director (Canadian).

Sean's other features, Lucid (2005), Zooey & Adam (2009), and I Propose We Never See Each Other Again After Tonight (2020) were all award-winning films, which enjoyed international theatrical releases and were selected by prestigious festivals around the world.

Sean first studied film production and theory at Toronto’s York University and continued his studies at the Instituto de Arte Cinematografico de Avellaneda in Buenos Aires. After spending years backpacking through Asia and South America, Sean returned to his home town of Winnipeg to begin a career as a filmmaker and musician in 1997.

Sean speaks four languages, has a masters degree, and also works as a bass player, having appeared on half a dozen CDs, and performs live most weekends in Winnipeg, where he lives. He is presently in production on his tenth feature film, Mockingbird (2023).
