She said she had a new indie joint and single, which peeked my interest. It’s an alien abduction tinged sci-fi, and the single may invoke Peter Andre vibes. We sit down with the filmmaker/singer for a full on, no holds barred confab, that unlike alien coverage, will go into EVERYTHING!!!!
'Lumina' is the feature directorial debut from Gino McKoy, which he also wrote. The film follows Alex (Rupert Lazarus), whose relationship with his dream girl Tatiana (Eleanor Williams) ends in a flash of blinding light. Completely traumatized by the situation, Alex desperately sets off with his friends (Sidney Nicole Rogers, Andrea Tivadar, Ken Lawson), and conspiracy theorists to discover what really happened to his girlfriend. While traveling through the desert, Alex and his friends are faced with the unexpected, pushing the group to fight for their lives.

Gino McKoy is a once-in-a-generation talent in both music and filmmaking, recognized globally for his creative vision and leadership. As the co-founder, Co-President, and CCO of Goldove Entertainment and Goldove Studios, Gino has established himself as an accomplished writer, director, producer, singer, and songwriter. His diverse body of work spans film, music, television, and documentaries, with several exciting projects in the pipeline under the Goldove banner.
One of Gino’s notable achievements is "Hypersexual," a film he wrote and directed within a matter of days. This project was selected for the inaugural TIFF x IG lineup during the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, where it garnered both critical acclaim and popular praise.
Gino's first screenplay, "LMI," written in 2011, is a female-driven spy thriller that has captured significant attention in Hollywood. Slated for production in late 2024, the project has already made waves, being featured at Cannes, TIFF, AFM, and EFM, and covered by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Notably, "LMI" was one of the rare scripts consulted on by the U.S. FBI during its development, making Gino one of the first screenwriters to explore themes like Bitcoin and the Deep Web.
In music, Gino has directed, written, and produced three music videos for his singles "Everything to Me," "Runaway," and "Sensy Girl," which were co-composed with his father, Hudson McKoy. These songs, along with two others, are featured on the soundtrack of the sci-fi horror comedy feature film "Lumina." Gino and Goldove Entertainment have signed a worldwide music publishing deal with BMG, with industry legends such as David Kershenbaum, Greg Phillinganes, Mick Guzauski, Bob Clearmountain, Bob Ludwig, and Bernie Grundman contributing to the album's production and mastering.
Despite the global pandemic, Gino directed his first Hollywood feature film, "Lumina," in Morocco from 2020 to 2021. The film is historic, being the first sci-fi horror comedy feature entirely shot in Morocco, featuring the largest sci-fi sets ever built in the country. Despite the numerous challenges posed by the pandemic, Gino's passion, commitment, and perseverance earned him high praise from cast, crew, and industry veterans alike, with one filmmaker noting, "Lumina was like shooting ten films in one."
Looking ahead, Gino is collaborating with Michael Sloan, the creator and producer of “The Equalizer” series, on his next sci-fi feature, "Spidersweb," slated for production in Morocco in 2024. Sloan praised the project, calling it "a terrific script, perfect for major studios and the global film market," and even sees potential for it to be adapted into a novel.
In addition to his creative pursuits, Gino is passionate about the need for a state-of-the-art film and music studio in Africa, particularly in Morocco, and is determined to bring this vision to life.
