We created "Vanished: The Heather Elvis Case" to maintain visibility and relevance surrounding Heather Elvis’s disappearance. Heather remains missing, and her family and concerned community members continue to seek closure. What distinguishes this case and drew us to it is the significant role played by social media. Heather vanished in late 2013, a time when social media and smartphones were becoming ubiquitous.

The accused utilized social media to manipulate public opinion in their favor, orchestrating an online harassment campaign against Heather's family. They propagated conspiracy theories and mobilized online trolls to disseminate misinformation. The Heather Elvis Case has garnered attention from prominent media outlets like Dateline, ID, and 20/20.

Our project takes a novel approach by focusing on the abuse and harassment endured by the Elvis family during their search for answers and justice for Heather. Additionally, we delve deeper into the narrative, highlighting key moments from the trial that led to the conviction of Tammy and Sidney Moorer for kidnapping. We explored various theories about what might have happened to Heather. At one point, the District Attorney even suggests that he would consider reducing the sentence of Tammy and Sidney Moorer if they were to disclose to the Elvis family what happened to Heather and her whereabouts.

Ultimately, our goal is to both educate and raise awareness about online harassment and safety. In today's world where large amounts of communication happen online, it's crucial that stories like what happened to the Elvis family are shared and understood.
