Echo Chamber: LFF21 - Day 4
'Day 4' has arrived and the goodness keeps on popping at this years 65th BFI London Film Festival.
This is a bumper episode, as we have a Canadian thriller, '20th Century Studios’ first animation offering, an indie film looking at relationships & culture. And we step back to Soho of the '60s, was it swinging or sleazy!?!
Our @EchoChamberFP coverage is in full effect!
'See for Me' is directed by Randall Okita and written by Adam Yorke & Tommy Gushue. When blind former skier Sophie (Skyler Davenport) cat-sits in a secluded mansion, three thieves invade for the hidden safe. Sophie's only defense is army veteran Kelly (Jessica Parker Kennedy). Kelly helps Sophie defend herself against the invaders and survive.
Sarah Smith, Jean-Philippe Vine & Octavio E. Rodriguez direct, Smith also co-wrote with Peter Baynham 'Ron's Gone Wrong'. Barney (Jack Dylan Grazer), is a socially awkward middle-schooler, and Ron (Zach Galifianakis), his new walking, talking, digitally-connected device, which is supposed to be his “Best Friend out of the Box.” Ron’s hilarious malfunctions, set against the backdrop of the social media age, launch them into an action-packed journey in which boy and robot come to terms with the wonderful messiness of true friendship.
Nana Mensah writes, directs, and stars in, 'Queen of Glory'. Sarah Obeng (Nana Mensah) has a perfect(ish) life. She’s studying for her PhD, and her married boyfriend has nearly broken things off with his wife. But when her mother suddenly dies, Sarah’s shocked to discover that she’s inherited her Christian bookshop, and she soon finds herself back in her childhood home in the Bronx. As Sarah struggles with funeral arrangements (for both a ‘white people funeral’ and traditional Ghanaian ceremony) and tries to get rid of the shop, she begins to re-evaluate her life. In doing so, she regains a connection to her culture.
'Last Night in Soho' is the new film from Edgar Wright he co-wrote it with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie), an aspiring fashion designer, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters a dazzling wannabe singer, Sandie (Anya Taylor-Joy). But the glamour is not all it appears to be and the dreams of the past start to crack and splinter into something far darker.
