It's that time of year people, the BFI London Film Festival (4th to 15th October 2023) has hit its 67th iteration!!!!

Your favourite film podcast @EchoChamberFP will be following each day with the not to be missed coverage!

So, on 'Day 1', we look at three short films, and two features, one of which being the opening night Gala!!!

'Area Boy' is written & directed by Iggy London. An aimless teenager, Eli, has moved to the outer edges of a provincial town with his mother. As he settles in, he tries to escape the bleakness of life and navigating questions of self-identity, by balancing his time between his delinquent friends and the church community. Torn between two worlds, Eli must find himself and embrace who he truly is.

'Mother of Mine' is written & directed by Jesse Lewis Reece. Directly following the loss of his lifelong partner and mother of his child, David (Robert Webb) struggles to find the time and place to release the news to his daughter (Phoebe Naughton), whilst dealing with the ever-present imprint of his lovers ghost in his own home.

'Blood' (aka Ratthum) is written & directed by Vathana Suganya Suppiah. Shanti (Bairavi Manoharan) finds blood in her underwear at the worst possible time. Against the backdrop of a Tamil coming-of-age ceremony where fertility is celebrated, menstruation is shunned and infertility is silenced, Shanti struggles to keep a secret.

'Girl' is written & directed by Adura Onashile. Grace (Déborah Lukumuena) and Ama (Le’Shantey Bonsu) have each other and that’s all they need. Their lives are confined to their Glasgow flat, with Grace leaving only for her job as a cleaner and forbidding Ama to set foot outside. But as Ama becomes more inquisitive, Grace is forced to confront the traumas of her past in order to let the world in.

'Saltburn' is written & directed by Emerald Fennell. Struggling to fit in at Oxford University, Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s (Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver) sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.
