Echo Chamber - LFF 23 - Day Six
Our @EchoChamberFP coverage hits 'Day 6' of the 67th BFI London Film Festival @britishfilminstitute #LFF (4th to 15th October 2023), which means we're halfway through!!!
There's three films today, two of which are high profile offerings. So we cast them under the magnifier to see how they hold up!
'Priscilla' is written & directed by Sofia Coppola. When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) meets Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi) at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend. Through Priscilla's eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla's long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.
'Fingernails' is directed by Christos Nikou which he co-wrote with Sam Steiner & Stavros Raptis. Anna (Jessie Buckley) increasingly suspects that her relationship with her longtime partner (Jeremy Allen White) may not actually be the real thing. In an attempt to improve things, she secretly embarks on a new assignment working at a mysterious institute designed to incite and test the presence of romantic love in increasingly desperate couples.
'Maestro' is directed by Bradley Cooper which he co-wrote with Josh Singer. It tells the complex love story of Leonard (Cooper) and Felicia (Carey Mulligan), a story that spans over 30 years-from the time they met in 1946 at a party and continuing through two engagements, a 25 year marriage, and three children: Jamie Bernstein (Brooklyn Rockett & Maya Hawke), Alexander Bernstein (Sam Nivola) and Nina Bernstein Simmons (Alexa Swinton).
