Echo Chamber - 159 - Part One
@EchoChamberFP is on the road BACK, after the computer meltdown! In 'Part One' of this catch-up, we have two VERY different horrors, both from Shudder. Then we 180 and bring you a couple of kid friendly films, though one definitely caters for adults more!
Written & directed by David Charbonier and Justin Powell, 'The Boy Behind the Door' is their directorial debut. A night of unimaginable terror awaits twelve-year-old Bobby (Lonnie Chavis) and his best friend, Kevin (Ezra Dewey), when they are abducted on their way home from school. Managing to escape his confines, Bobby navigates the dark halls, praying his presence goes unnoticed as he avoids his captor at every turn. Even worse is the arrival of another stranger, whose mysterious arrangement with the kidnapper may spell certain doom for Kevin. With no means of calling for help and miles of dark country in every direction, Bobby embarks on a rescue mission, determined to get himself and Kevin out alive… or die trying.
'Jakob's Wife' is directed by Travis Stevens, who co-wrote it with Kathy Charles & Mark Steensland. Anne is in her late 50s and feels like her life and marriage have been shrinking over the past thirty years. Through a chance encounter with a stranger, she discovers a new sense of power and an appetite to live bigger and bolder than before. However, these changes come with a toll on her marriage and a heavy body count.
'Free Guy' is the new film from Shawn Levy and written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn. Guy (Ryan Reynolds), a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way… before it is too late.
David Silverman & Raymond S. Persi direct, and Joel Cohen, John Frink & Rob Lazebnik write 'Extinct'. Siblings Op and Ed are flummels - cute, furry, donut-shaped animals who live on an island in the Galapagos in 1835. Ed, desperately wants to fit in with the community while Op constantly creates havoc, with his impulsive behaviour getting the two of them banished. Undeterred, Op leads Ed up the far side of the mountain to the forbidden zone, where they find, and plummet through, a mysterious time portal where they learn, to their horror, that flummels become extinct in 1835. Op and Ed must undertake a tumultuous time-hopping adventure in order to return to their own time and save their species.
