Echo Chamber - 231
We're taking a look at FOUR films on this week's EchoChamberFP so buckle up!!!
Things start off with a new Netflix rom-com, we then take a step back to look at Focus Features norse entry. Up next is the latest Apple TV joint, and we close the show with a revenge flick from The Avenue, Buffalo 8 & Signature Entertainment.
'The Marriage App' is directed by Sebastián De Caro and written by Gabriel Korenfeld & Rocio Blanco. A young couple (Luisana Lopilato & Juan Minujín) with children find themselves going through a crisis and seem to have exhausted all opportunities to solve their marriage problems. As a last resource, they decide to use an app that gives (or subtracts) points for each good deed they do to one another. At the beginning this seems to be the solution they have been waiting for, until the obsession to pile up points and win independence from each other will spiral things out of control.
'The Northman' is directed by Robert Eggers who co-wrote with Sjón. Based on the legend of Amleth. With a mind aflame with hate and revenge, Prince Amleth, (Oscar Novak) the wronged son of King Aurvandill War-Raven (Ethan Hawke), heads to cold, windswept Iceland to retrieve what was stolen from him: a father, a mother (Nicole Kidman), and a kingdom. And like a war dog picking up the enemy's scent, brutal Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) embarks on a murderous quest to find the hateful adversary (Claes Bang), whose life is forever woven together with his by the threads of fate. But does he also find someone (Anya Taylor-Joy) else fate has woven into his story!?!
'Emancipation' is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by William N. Collage. It's the triumphant story of Peter (Will Smith), a man who escapes from slavery, relying on his wits, unwavering faith and deep love for his family to evade cold-blooded hunters and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana on his quest for freedom. The film is inspired by the 1863 photos of “Whipped Peter,” taken during a Union Army medical examination, that first appeared in Harper’s Weekly. One image, known as “The Scourged Back,” which shows Peter’s bare back mutilated by a whipping delivered by his enslavers, ultimately contributed to growing public opposition to slavery.
'Savage Justice' (aka Savage Salvation) is directed by Randall Emmett and written by Adam Taylor Barker & Chris Sivertson. Newly engaged Shelby John (Jack Huston) and Ruby Red (Willa Fitzgerald) want a fresh start after their struggles with addiction, but when Shelby discovers his beloved Ruby dead on their porch, he embarks on a vengeful killing spree of the dealers who supplied her. Armed with nothing but adrenaline and a nail gun, Shelby begins to unleash chaos on the town’s criminal underbelly, as he hunt’s down crime lord Coyote (Quavo). Sheriff Church (Robert De Niro) must race against the clock to put an end to Shelby's vigilante justice before the entire town descends into a bloodbath
