Five films this week, Buffalo 8 & Saban Films have futuristic assassin flick. Prime Video has an actioner from Open Road Films & Capstone Global, and a rom-com from A24. An Icelandic thriller from Magnolia Pictures, Magnet Releasing & Signature Entertainment is next. And we end on Skydance, Pilot Wave & Netflix new spy caper!
'Assassin' is directed by Jesse Atlas, who co-wrote with Aaron Wolfe. A private military operation, led by Valmora (Bruce Willis), invents futuristic microchip tech that enables the mind of an agent to inhabit the body of another person to carry out covert, deadly missions. But when Agent Sebastian (Mustafa Shakir) is killed during a secret mission, his wife, Alexa (Nomzamo Mbatha), must take his place in an attempt to bring the man (Dominic Purcell) responsible to justice.
'Kandahar' is directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Mitchell LaFortune. Tom Harris (Gerard Butler), an undercover CIA operative, is stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. After his mission is exposed, he must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator (Navid Negahban), to an extraction point in Kandahar, all whilst avoiding elite enemy forces and foreign spies tasked with hunting them down.
'You Hurt My Feelings' is written & directed by Nicole Holofcener. Beth (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) struggles with a lack of self-confidence, and her marriage with unsuccessful therapist Don (Tobias Menzies) is affected by a betrayal. Before this, they had a peaceful but co-dependent relationship, which makes their only child uncomfortable. Beth's sister helps her cope with the pain, possibly because of her own struggles with husband Mark, who is a struggling actor.
'Operation Napoleon: Frozen Conspiracy' is directed by Óskar Thór Axelsson and written by Arnaldur Indriðason & Marteinn Thorisson. Based on the book of the same name. Kristín (Vivian Ólafsdóttir), an Icelandic lawyer gets sucked into an international conspiracy after being accused of a murder she didn't commit. Only chance of survival lies in uncovering the secret of an old German World War II airplane, wrecked on top of Vatnajökull, Iceland's largest glacier.
'Heart of Stone' is directed by Tom Harper and written by Greg Rucka & Allison Schroeder. International intelligence agent Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot) must embark on a dangerous mission to protect the mysterious MacGuffin known as "The Heart." Stone is tasked by the peacekeeping operation known as Charter to keep the object safe from falling into enemy hands.
